Another restart

Hello all,

After a delay while we all recovered from busy lives, we continued the campaign.  However, we quickly concluded something that we had suspected: land based air was taking too big of a role in the games.  As we wanted the games to focus more on the ships, we decided that we had to make some changes.

So, we decided to restart, same sides, but moving up to a 1942 start date.  As part of this change, we removed the air bases and all of the rules around aircraft ranges.  Instead, you get a land base with a capacity based on standard A&A Naval Miniatures rules - i.e., up to 199 points, you have a capacity of 5 on your land base.  Where you own the territory where the combat is occurring, you use the standard rearm rules; where you do not own that sector, you get 2 rearm markers.  If a strategic base location is being attacked, the defender gets +2 to their airbase capacity.  Additionally, you may only use air to attack adjacent sectors (no deep strikes) and if you have no ships or subs in the battle (or remaining in the battle) you have to make search rolls.

We also made a few minor tweaks, such as adding the Installation SA to the  shore batteries and allowing the VP earning SAs to earn economic points in certain situations.

We immediately discovered that these changes removed a lot of overhead in the game and suspect that, as we no longer have to track the destination of aircraft, that it will reduce overhead in the battles as well.
